Introduction
At certain times something grabs our attention that we like but we really don’t know much about it.
Today’s subject is about nature for example; the water, the earth, the flowers, the animals, and the galaxy as well. Today we will learn about how to make handmade books. Each page we make will have information about what we like best of nature.
Tell me who has being in a situation where you find for instance a specific flower or animal and you don’t know what is call?

I have information that will help each of you to gather all the needed information. There are magazines, photographs, books, copies and postcards. Use all the information you need but please do not take all the magazines and the rest. You have to share with others. Select and take only the information and images you are going to need to make your book.

Do you have any questions?
For those who have not picked a subject raise your hand. I want you to stay seated while the others go thru the magazines.
Those who have chose a subject raise your hand. I want to tell me your subject one by one. As soon as I approve go look for information on the pile of magazines and stuff.

Once you have most of the information needed to use it in your handmade books; I will demonstrate how to do the book. Then each of you will start working on your own individually.
Okay, now that all of you have your information we are going to start on the handmade book.
I am going to do a demonstration on how to do a hidden book.
Afterwards I will pass around a bag to each of you that contain all materials needed.
Extra materials will be in the table next to the magazines
Do you have any questions?
I want you to work individually.
Most important be as creative as you can be and unique.
Some ask me how you can use the magazines and photographs I provided you with.
You can use them for a collage, to can use them as a transfer image, you can cut and glue anywhere in your books. you can use text and your own handwriting for the information.
Here is an example that can be use for those who still do not know how to use your information.
For example Category: Animal
Lion
Kingdom: Animalia
Class: Mammalia
Family: Felidae
The lion is one of four big cats in the genus Panthera.
It is the second largest living cat after the tiger.

I am going to pass around a sheet of paper that will guide you until you gather your information.

Guided Practice
First thing to do:
Ø  Take a seat
Ø  In your notebook write down the category you choose about nature from:
·         Flowers
·         Water
·         Earth: rocks and minerals
·         Animals
·         Types of weather
Ø  Once you have chosen your category; list at least six different types that you are interested in learning or like best.
Ø  Then look for information rewarding your topic like images and a description about it.
Ø  Check with me for any questions you may have.
Ø  Do not hesitate to wait until the last minute. We still need to cover the handmade part to finish the assignment.
Ø  As soon as you have your information all together let me know so I can see it and approve it.
Ø  Once everyone is done with this part we will start with the handmade book

Hidden Handmade Book
Ø  After I demonstrate how to do the book and passed around all material needed start on your book.
Ø  Fold a piece of paper in half lengthwise. Open.
Ø  Fold in half widthwise. Open.
Ø  Turn the paper over so the widthwise fold becomes a peak.
Ø  Fold in the ends to the widthwise fold. Open. You have just made an accordion fold.
Ø  Cut a slit down the lengthwise fold only along the middle two sections.
Ø  Fold in half again lengthwise.
Ø  Push the ends together so the middle section will make an X and then form pages.
Ø  Fold over the middle sections and wrap around to make book.
